Prime rib refers to a beef cut taken from the primal rib section of a cow. The full prime rib typically consists of 6 ribs, and it is common to slice them separately to create ribeye steaks. Often known as a "standing rib roast," prime rib is a popular choice for holiday meals due to its tender texture, attributed to significant marbling.
The core of prime rib features a substantial "eye" of meat that is both succulent and tender, enriched with marbled fat. Surrounding this eye is a fat-marbled muscle, encapsulated by a thick layer of fat. This composition imparts tenderness, juiciness, and exceptional flavor to prime rib, as the muscles in this cut are not heavily exercised.
